The YMCA of Greater Cleveland is proud to celebrate member Jack Bethelfany, whose dedication to healthy living and competitive excellence recently earned him a second-place finish at the 2026 Franklin U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida. Widely regarded as one of the premier pickleball tournaments in the world, the 2026 event attracted more than 3,750 players from all 50 states and 53 countries, along with more than 55,000 spectators.
A new YMCA video tells Jack's inspiring story, highlighting not only his success on the court but also the commitment, perseverance and positive attitude that helped him reach the national stage. As a member of the YMCA community, Jack embodies the idea that age should never be a barrier to pursuing new goals, staying active and embracing life's challenges.
His achievement serves as a powerful reminder of the YMCA's impact on healthy aging. Through wellness programs, group exercise classes, aquatics, pickleball, social activities and other opportunities for engagement, the Y helps older adults maintain their physical health, build meaningful relationships and continue doing the things they love. For many members, the Y is more than a fitness center—it's a community that supports well-being and belonging at every stage of life.
Jack's story also reflects the growing popularity of pickleball, one of the nation's fastest-growing sports, and demonstrates how YMCA programs help members discover new passions while pursuing lifelong wellness. Whether competing at a national championship or simply enjoying a friendly game with friends, YMCA members are proving every day that active living has no age limit.
We invite you to watch Jack's inspiring story and celebrate a remarkable accomplishment that makes the entire YMCA of Greater Cleveland community proud.
