This summer, the YMCA of Greater Cleveland is proud to launch new opportunities for teens through a $580,000 grant from the State of Ohio's Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
The funding is supporting our Y-Leaders program at the Warrensville Heights Family YMCA, where young people are developing leadership skills, building confidence and preparing for future success. Thanks to this investment, the program will expand to the Hillcrest Family YMCA next summer, giving even more teens the opportunity to grow as leaders in their communities.
The grant is also helping us offer our Youth & Government program at the Warrensville Heights branch during the upcoming school year. Through this nationally recognized YMCA program, participants will gain firsthand experience in civic engagement, public speaking and the democratic process.
Recently, representatives from Governor Mike DeWine's office visited the Warrensville Heights Family YMCA to see the programs in action. They met with participants who shared how Y-Leaders has made a meaningful difference in their lives. One teen said the program helped them "learn about myself and build confidence," while another shared that it has helped them "learn leadership skills that will help me in a job while removing bad habits."
The State of Ohio's investment will support these programs through June 2027, allowing the YMCA to continue empowering young people with the skills, confidence and experiences they need to become tomorrow's leaders.
