Why Healthy Kids Day Matters

Healthy habits are formed early. Healthy Kids Day encourages families to:

  • Be physically active together

  • Discover local resources that support healthy living
  • Build connections within their community

The YMCA believes that when kids are healthy in spirit, mind, and body, they are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed.

What's the Purpose of Healthy Kids Day?

Healthy Kids Day is a nationwide YMCA initiative focused on inspiring healthy lifestyles in children and families. At YMCA of Greater Cleveland branches, Healthy Kids Day features fun activities, wellness resources, and opportunities for families to explore all the ways the Y supports youth development.

The event is open to members and the community and is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all families.

Everyone wants healthy children. Yet communities vary considerably in their commitment to children's collective health and the resources that they make available to meet their needs. One in three children in the U.S. is obese, and when summertime hits, kids are often idler. Research shows that kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities. It is vital that we guide the development of good habits in our children they will use in and out of school. That’s where your YMCA plays an important role.

The Y works hard to be a constant in youth development in every community we serve, no matter where our branches and programs are located. Children deserve to be given the opportunity to grow and thrive in our society. As someone who knows the Y, you understand we are committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen.
