
At the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, we believe wellness is about more than just the number on the scale. It’s about building confidence, forming healthy habits, and discovering what your body and mind are truly capable of. That’s exactly what MOVE 2 LOSE, our 10-week weight loss program, offers.
Participants in MOVE 2 LOSE don’t just lose weight, they gain knowledge, accountability, strength, and a supportive community. Each week includes two in-person group workouts, guided fitness goals to complete at home, optional weekly weigh-ins, and three comprehensive InBody scans to measure body composition, muscle mass, and more. Bi-weekly nutrition talks round out the program, helping participants build a healthy and sustainable relationship with food.
But what truly sets MOVE 2 LOSE apart is the transformation that happens from within. Coaches reported incredible growth in self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-worth among participants. From conquering their first 30-second interval without stopping to showing up even when motivation was low, these members proved that progress comes from consistency and courage.
Here are just a few of the many inspiring stories from the most recent session:
- One participant shared how she was able to roll over unassisted during a massage—something she’d never done before. She also gained more than 3% muscle over the 10 weeks!
- Another member nearly skipped several classes but kept showing up for herself and her community. Her dedication paid off—she attended nearly every class and lost over 2% body fat.
- A determined member lost more than 24 pounds and 3.7% body fat, and he’s now continuing his journey through other YMCA fitness classes and programs.
- A participant struggling with snacking made major changes to her nutrition, following the MyPlate guidelines and prioritizing whole foods. She completed all 20 in-person sessions and lost over 9 pounds and 2.1% body fat!
Our coaches were inspired daily by this group’s energy and determination. They pushed their limits, supported one another, and celebrated every small victory on the way to a bigger transformation. As one coach shared: “Watching the joy and pride on their faces after each workout was one of the best parts of this program.”

Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at either 11:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m., with make-up options available—perfect for summer vacations! We hope to bring this program to other branches soon.
