Celebrating the $7 Million Renovation of Y-Haven

On August 21, the YMCA of Greater Cleveland celebrated the completion of a $7 million renovation at its Y-Haven facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the refreshed space.

Located on Woodland Avenue in Cleveland, Y-Haven provides transitional housing and treatment programs for individuals overcoming homelessness and addiction. The renovation transformed three residential floors with upgraded furnishings, lighting, finishes, and original artwork made possible by a grant from the Callahan Foundation. These improvements created a more dignified and healing environment for residents.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to tour the renovated spaces, hear directly from residents about the positive impact of the changes, and speak with YMCA leadership about the project’s significance.

The renovation was made possible through funding from Cuyahoga County’s Opioid Settlement Funds, the Cuyahoga County Office of Homeless Services, the State of Ohio, and the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry. The Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), which owns and manages the building, was a critical partner throughout the process, while the YMCA continues to operate Y-Haven’s residential recovery program.

Ed Gemerchak, Senior Vice President of Behavioral Services at Y-Haven, reflected, “This renovation marks a milestone in our efforts to provide residents with a place that not only meets their basic needs but also inspires hope.”

The event highlighted the YMCA’s commitment to restoring lives and supporting lasting stability for those working toward recovery and independence.
