Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga that targets the deep connective tissues of the body—like ligaments, joints, and fascia—through long-held, passive postures. Unlike more active yoga practices, Yin Yoga encourages stillness and surrender, allowing the body to open gradually and deeply while calming the mind.

At the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, Yin Yoga offers a unique opportunity to pause, breathe, and restore balance—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

All of our instructors are highly trained and hold a minimum of 200-hour yoga certification or equivalent discipline-specific credentials, ensuring that every class is led with expertise, safety, and care.

What to Expect in Class

Yin Yoga uses gravity, breath, and time to gently release tension in commonly tight areas like the hips, spine, and shoulders. A typical class includes:

  • Seated and supine poses held for 2–5 minutes
  • Use of props (bolsters, blocks, blankets) for comfort and support
  • Emphasis on stillness and breath awareness A calm, introspective environment
  • Gentle guidance into and out of each posture

This practice complements more active styles of yoga and other fitness routines by promoting joint health, flexibility, and inner calm.
