Dear Valued YMCA Member,
In light of Governor DeWine’s remarks Wednesday night when he threatened to close, among other businesses, gyms and fitness centers, we feel it is important to reach out to you. We are thankful to our government and community partners who work every day to help our communities be safe and healthy. As you know, we have been working hard in our facilities and programs to ensure all safety protocols are met or exceeded to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We have been successful. Simply put, YMCAs are not the problem. No cases of COVID-19 have been traced to YMCA of Greater Cleveland branches. We have had ten positive cases within our staff (in-branch and the corporate office), and all cases were handled per CDC and health department guidelines without incident. It is critical to our communities and those who depend on us that our YMCAs remain open and avoid a second shut down. Because of you, our YMCA has been providing critical community services such as pandemic child care, meal and food distribution, connections for seniors dealing with isolation, treatment for the addicted and safe housing for the homeless. |

We also provide the community with a place to improve wellness, form meaningful relationships and enjoy positive interaction in a safe and socially distant environment. These services affect our community’s health, which is closely connected to mental health.
Our members are doing their part, too. We appreciate that you remain vigilant in helping us maintain a healthy environment so we can continue to serve our communities. However, because this pandemic is ongoing, the potential for disruption in our operations remains present. We must continue our efforts to keep our buildings and program spaces safe. This virus is raging and it is important to us that you and your family stay healthy. Please wear a mask, practice social distancing, avoid socializing in groups and stay home if you don’t feel well. These times are tough and uncertain, so we must help protect each other and continue to be there for one another. The value of your support - to the Y’s programs and to the thousands of people who depend on us - cannot possibly be measured, but your efforts are certainly appreciated more than words can express. Stay Safe, Timothy M. Hilk
