SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Y provides free memberships and respite care to US servicemen and their families
The hardship and uncertainty brought on by military deployment has led the YMCA to offer free memberships and support to United States' serviceman and their families.
The inititiave includes memberships for wounded service members and their families (spouse/child only) assigned to a community-based Warrior in Transition unit.
The nation’s 2,686 YMCAs, including the Greater Cleveland Y, have the unique capacity to respond to the needs of this widely dispersed population through supportive, community-based programs that foster a healthy spirit, mind and body.
Eligible military families and personnel include:
- Family members of deployed National Guard and Reservists
- Active Duty families
- Active Duty Independent Duty personnel and their families
- Relocated spouses and family members of deployed Active Duty personnel
- Community Based Warrior Transition Unit members
In addition, the Outreach Initiative offers respite child care services for children whose parent or guardian needs temporary respite from their role as primary caregiver in the absence of a deployed spouse.
