A new partnership has begun between the Y and the
Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Lakeview Terrace Community Center.
The
partnership provides a cadre of programs, according to Y of Greater Cleveland
Youth and Community Services Director and Downtown Branch Director Malik Moore.
Programs being offered to Lakeview Terrace residents include Teen Court, which
alters misguided behavior in youth; Leaders Club, which develops youth who
demonstrate leadership qualities; Youth and Government, Model United Nations and Civic Engagement programs which help youth find their inner voice and learn ways to take action in a constructive and results-oriented manner.
After-school tutoring, sports and recreation programs and wellness classes are
also being offered. The latter classes are designed to address preventable diseases
related to inactivity such as obesity and diabetes.
“This partnership brings together two organizations with similar missions and
maximizes the impact that both organizations can have on the community,”
Moore said.
The Y programs serve the 1,100 residents of the Lakeview Terrace complex.
