Hillcrest branch of the Greater Cleveland YMCA to assume operations of city rec programs
(April 15, 2010) The cities of South Euclid and Lyndhurst and the South Euclid-Lyndhurst
school district have entered into an agreement with the YMCA of Greater
Cleveland for the latter to assume operations of recreation programs and childcare programs currently being offered through SELREC.
SELREC has provided recreational programs to area residents for over 60 years and its major programs are the child care and summer day camp.
South Euclid Mayor Georgine Welo, Lyndhurst Mayor Joseph M. Cicero, Jr., South
Euclid-Lyndhurst Superintendent William J. Zelei, and YMCA of Greater Cleveland
President Glenn Haley formally signed the agreement on March 3.
The Hillcrest Family YMCA, 5000 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, will assume fiscal
responsibility for the operating results of SELREC on June 1, 2010.
SELREC will offer the same programs it offers now, but under the auspices of the YMCA.
The SELREC program is currently operating in the red. Both South Euclid and Lyndhurst, along with the South Euclid Lyndhurst school district, have contributed subsidies to offset operating costs. Self-generated revenues have continued to decline as fewer people sign up for SELREC programs.
The collaboration will expand the Y’s presence in the area and build on already-established programs such as summer camp, according to Glenn Hailey, president and CEO of the Greater Cleveland YMCA.
