“We Run This City” Youth Marathon Program kicks off with student training

Glenn Haley and Bill “Kaz” Kazmaier(Jan. 22, 2010) Student participants in the “We Run This City” youth marathon program kicked off their training regimen on Jan. 25 with weigh-ins and fitness evaluations.

The "We Run This City" program is designed to combat childhood obesity and promote physical fitness among youth by preparing students to run the last leg of the Rite-Aid Cleveland Marathon in May.

About 500 students in grades 6 through 12 are expected to take part in the program in 2010.

Helping kick off the 2010 training season on Jan. 22 was three-time “World’s Strongest Man,” Bill “Kaz” Kazmaier, who, with Greater Cleveland YMCA president Glenn Haley, pulled a YMCA bus in the parking lot of the Downtown Y. Many Youth Marathon Program kids were on hand to cheer them on.
