Ground Broken on new French Creek
at Avon Branch
Construction has begun on a 67,506 square-foot, state-of-the-art YMCA in Avon. The new branch is located just 12 minutes from downtown Lorain, within a larger planned recreational complex on a 122-acre site at State Route 611 and I-90.
The new branch supports Avon residents' desire for a facility of this type in their community.
The French Creek YMCA will employ approximately 85 full-and-part-time staff, and will have an operating budget of about $2 million, including approximately $1 million in salaries and benefits. It is expected to generate between $250,000 to $300,000 in federal, state, and local tax revenues annually.
The anchor of the new facility is an eight-lane competitive indoor swimming pool, along with a multi-purpose gymnasium, segmented fitness center, aerobics area, child care facilities, a whirlpool spa and sauna, a cycling studio, and a playground with equipment.
YMCA monthly membership rates range from $15 for teens to $76 for families. Avon residents will receive a discounted membership rate.
