COMMUNITY YOUTH SERVICES
The Community Youth Services branch brings teen programs to communities by working with schools, churches and other community-based organizations.
Teens are an important part of our communities! The YMCA of Greater Cleveland believes in the positive development of teens through programs that teach leadership skills, develop character, provide positive social activities, and encourage community involvement.
Programs are based on a developmentally-specific program philosophy, with YMCA character development and asset building as a foundation.
The YMCA uses a planned approach to enhance four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility throughout all its programming areas.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Model United Nations (Model U.N.) provides area youth an opportunity for hands-on involvement with international issues and solutions, fostering a greater appreciation for our global community.
The goal of the program is to increase awareness of international affairs by learning about U.S. policies and international organizations. This is accomplished by learning the cultural traditions, history and policies of foreign countries and providing first-hand experience with the compromises and trade-offs faced to reach agreements on major issues.
Teens from the Greater Cleveland area increase their knowledge of international affairs and foreign countries while becoming familiar with national policies.
Program participants join their peers at the culminating regional conference, the General Assembly, where they build international consciousness through their role-play as members of the United Nations.
Participants are expected to:
- Develop an understanding of local, state and international issues
- Gain public speaking skills to express individual viewpoints
- Practice and embrace the four core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- Explore world issues and resolutions through group workshops and resolution writing
- Participate in the General Assembly as a representative from a foreign nation

YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT PROGRAM
Malik Moore, Director of Community Youth Services

mmoore@clevelandymca.org
A fun and exciting way to learn about government! The Y's Youth in Government Program enhances development of the American democratic process for young people through participatory training in the theory and practice of the Ohio state government.Teens from across the city meet in local clubs throughout the year to discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of their state and to propose possible legislation to make state government more efficient.
Teens in the program learn about the legislative process, how to write and research bills, and how to participate in elections. Their work culminates in teens serving as delegates at their state conference, debating bills on the floor of the legislature. Some teens have actually made bills into laws!
If you want to shape your city, this is the place for you! Contact the Program Director for meeting times at (216) 263-6294.
