Crystal Murphy from The Underground Railroad spoke about Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking is a modem day form of slavery, widespread throughout the United States today, Trafficking of humans is the second largest criminal industry in the world after drug dealing, and is the fastest growing. Many victims of trafficking are make to engage in prostitution, pornography or exotic dancing. But trafficking also occurs un forms of labor exploitation, such as domestic servitude or restaurant work, sweatshop factory work or migrant agricultural work. Beechbrook has a NEW program for parents of young children. S.T.E.P.S. (Security, Touch, Eyes, Play and Sound)
S.T.E.P.S. is a 6 week program for parents of children ages 0-5 that focuses on early brain development and stimulation. For more information call Debra Brown or Vanessa Davis at (216) 391-4069.
The Beechbrook M&M program (Mom's and Mentors) matches teen foster mom's ages 17-21 with a mentor who will offer support and help them work on building relationships with their children, parenting skills, anger/stress management and basic life skills. Career Exploration Speakers Series
In collaboration with East Clark Staff the Student Assistance program has developed a speaker series which will bring in professionals from various educational and vocational backgrounds to off-set the lack of career services within the schools. The National Children’s Study will examine the effects of the environment, as broadly defined to include factors such as air, water, diet, sound, family dynamics, community and cultural influences, and genetics on the growth, development, and health of children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21 years. The goal of the Study is to improve the health and well-being of children and contribute to understanding the role various factors have on health and disease. Findings from the Study will be made available as the research progresses, making potential benefits known to the public as soon as possible.
