Jennifer Smyser from Lakeland Community College came to speak about the Ladders for Lakeland program. Ladders for Lakeland has several programs that individuals can take part in. The Men's Gateway to College Project allows young men to take a free college class with ongoing support from the Men's Center and then work with the student to continue to take ongoing classes. Gateway will help guide the student through admissions, financial aid and the registration process and provide guidance throughout the semester. The WILL program is designed to inspire women who want to begin their educational journey but do not know where to start. Students can participate in introductory classes and participate in support groups. The WISE program is Women In Science and Engineering. Be SMART is Single Mothers Achieving Real Triumph. The SMART program is a support and networking for single Mom's. MEDS is Medical Education Done Successfully. This program is designed for students interested in a healthcare field. And finally, the Pathfinders program us geared to the needs of African-American men who are interested in starting a college education. Lakeland also offers a GED program called First Rung to College. It is a GED program that also helps you move to college at the same time. For any of the women's programs please call (440) 525-7322, for Pathfinders cal (440) 525-7447, Gateway program call (440) 525-7453 and the GED program please call (440) 525-7452.

Jennifer Morris from Family Behavioral Health Services spoke about two support groups that are available to families. They offer a Teen Group which focuses on making positive choices, understanding negative choices, managing anger, learning pro-social skills and increase cooperation with authority. The Parent Group focuses on parenting styles, tools to decrease emotional reactivity, set age appropriate limits, demonstrate and use positive discipline techniques and gain insight into negative family patterns. Both groups are covered by most insurances and medicaid is also accepted. For more info on the groups or other services offered through FBHS please call (440) 460-0140 or click here.

The Collab will also be receiving an allotment of the Free Discount Prescription Drug Cards from Cuyahoga County. They will be distributed at the July Collab meeting. The vast majority of drug stores in Cuyahoga County will honor these cards.

For information about a food program available to families please log onto www.angelfoodministries.com for more information. Local area churches are members of the Angel Food Ministries.
