Sports Skills Classes
Sports classes feature a “games approach” to learning and provides an array of innovative resources designed to not only teach sports skills more effectively but also help develop youths in accordance with the YMCA core values. The curriculum includes sports tactics, sports skills, rules and traditions of the sport, fitness and safety concepts and character development.
Classes are divided into two age groups:
YMCA Rookies, an instructional program for 3-5 year-olds
YMCA Winners, a values-based competitive program for 6-9 year-olds.
The two programs feature the following qualities:
- More emphasis on teaching skills than on winning
- Use of planned curricula to learn skills in developmentally appropriate sequences
- The “games approach” to learning sports a more enjoyable, effective approach
Ridgewood YMCA offers skill classes in :
- T-Ball/Coach Pitch Baseball
- Basketball
- Flag Football
- Soccer
- Sports of All Sorts
- Gymnastics
Check out our Cultural Arts & Humanities Programs:
