Y Aquatics programs offer children and adults the opportunity to experience the many wonders of water.
Y Swim Lessons focus on teaching participants the lifelong benefits of swimming through the main program component of stroke development, personal safety, personal growth, rescue and water games
Water fitness programs focus on the enhancement of physical fitness through movements that increase strength and endurance without putting stress or strain on the joints.

Participation in Y Aquatics programs offers an unparalleled sense of well-being and a relaxing environment for safe exercise, physical therapy, and play.
Swim Lesson Categories- 5 Week Sessions
- Infant (6 mos.- 3 yrs. with parent)
Water orientation class that provides activities that prepare a child to move well, improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and self-confidence in the water.
Shrimp: 6-24 months
Perch: 24-36 months
- Preschool (Ages 3-6 yrs.)
This program safely introduce younger children to the water. Each level builds upon the preceding skill level to introduce the basic movements of swimming.
Pike 1: Beginner
Pike 2: Beginner
Ell 1: Intermediate
Eel 2: Intermediate
Ray 1: Advanced
Ray 2: Advanced
Swim Team Level
- School Age (6-12 yrs.)
This program comprises five main components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Each skill level builds upon the preceding skill level covering all of the fundamentals.
Polliwog 1 : Beginner
Polliwog 2: Beginner
Guppy 1 : Intermediate
Guppy 2 : Intermediate
Minnow 1: Advanced
Minnow 2: Advanced
Fish1: Advanced
Fish 2: Advanced
Shark: Swim Team Level
- Teen/Adult (13+ yrs.)
Non-swimmers are taught basic swimming skills and water safety.
Lifeguarding Courses/ Recertifications
Lifeguarding class certifies students in American Red Cross Lifesaving, CPR-Pro and First-Aid. Students must pass a pre-course test first day of class to be admitted into the class and must be 15 years of age by the last day of class. Students must pass a written test with 80% per section and water test with 100% proficiency. Each class time consists of water and classroom work. Attendance is mandatory at all classes. Pre-registration required. $250 includes all supplies and certification fees.
Lifeguarding Pre-course Skills
- Swim continuously for 300 yards (12 laps)
- 25 yard swim and brick retrieval
- 2 minute water tread
Hillcrest YMCA Hurricanes Swim Team
Ages 6-14 yrs. - coed
(Membership required)
Team Fee: 1st child $150; 2nd child $125; 3rd child $100
Summer Swim Team Starting May 1st!!!
The Hillcrest Swim Team is for anyone 6-14 years of age (guppy level and above) who likes to swim and wants to have fun participating in a team sport. Practices are 5 nights a week, and you must attend 2 practices every week).
The League meets on Fridays or Saturdays and there are several optional meets throughout the season.
