Participation in Y Sports programs has many positive effects for children including the development of teamwork and communication skills, improved self-confidence, mental health, school success, and physical fitness.

AAU BASKETBALL

Starts Feb 28

The YMCA is providing an opportunity designed for kids grades 5 though 12 to develop their skills for the next level of basketball. Some of the top players in our area use AAU basketball to further develop their basketball skills. The program is staffed by college experienced coaches who are devoted to teaching the game of basketball.
TRYOUTS: (FREE TO ATTEND)
TUESDAY FEB 28 & 29 @ EUCLID YMCA
BOYS 5-6 GRADE: 6:30-7:30PM
BOYS 7-8 GRADE: 7:30-8:30PM
BOYS 9-12 GRADE: 8:30-9:30PM
SUNDAY MARCH 4 @ EUCLID YMCA
GIRLS 5-8 GRADE: 4 - 5PM
GIRLS 9-12 GRADE: 5 - 6PM
TOURNAMENTS:
April 13-15: North Royalton Cage Classic
April 20-22: Euclid Sports Plant
April 27-29: Combat in the Country
May 11-13: Great Lakes Regional Championship
May 27th: Memorial Shootout
PRACTICES: twice a week 6 PM or later usually on Tuesday and Fridays at Euclid YMCA.
COST: $300 includes tournament entry fees, gym time, jerseys, and shorts.

Sports Classes
Sports classes feature a “games approach” to learning and provides an array of innovative resources designed to not only teach sports skills more effectively but also to teach young people to become better adults. The curriculum includes sports tactics, sports skills, rules and traditions of the sport, fitness and safety concepts and character development.
The program is divided into three age groups:
- YMCA Rookies, an instructional program for 3-4 year-olds
- YMCA Winners, a values-based competitive program for 5-8 year-olds
- YMCA Champions, a values-based program for 8-14 year-olds
The two programs feature the following qualities:
- More emphasis on teaching skills than on winning
- Use of planned curricula to learn skills in developmentally appropriate sequences
- The “games approach” to learning sports a more enjoyable, effective approach
