In case you missed our last meeting....
For our June Collab meeting we were pleased to have
Detective Paul Wittreich of the Juvenile Unit for the Euclid Police Department come and speak to our group about Juvenile Diversion and current juvenile crime issues within the City of Euclid.
The city of Euclid Juvenile Diversion Program is comprised of an alliance between the City of Euclid, Euclid Police Department, Euclid Schools, Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, and various organizations/businesses to offer families a positive alternative to traditional Juvenile Court involvement.
The Juvenile Diversion Program is a voluntary program designed to offer parents and children the opportunity to communicate and cooperate with one another through voluntary counseling and community service in lieu of official court involvement. The counseling is provided by Family Behavioral Health Services. Juveniles learn about anger management, stress management, preventing criminal thinking patters, substance abuse, success and failure cycles and communication with adults and peers. The purpose is to strengthen family values while becoming involved in community and civic projects. It is designed to empower families through education, direction and guidance for the betterment of the City of Euclid and its residents.
Generally, juveniles (under the age of 18) who are accused of unruly offenses will be eligible for referral to the Juvenile Diversion Program. Consideration will be given to those accused of delinquent acts. Offenses involving sex offenses and violent crimes will be excluded, except if special circumstances exist. Generally, felony violators will not be eligible for the Diversion Program.
Criteria for referral to the Juvenile Diversion Program would include but are not limited to the following:
-
Parental & juvenile agreement to participate in the program.
-
Victim's agreement to diversion.
-
Restitution.
-
Officer recommendation for diversion.
-
Juvenile's history:
-
Prior involvement in unruly acts.
-
Severity of crime for which the juvenile is accused.
-
Review of school records for grades attendance & disciplinary problems.
-
The juvenile's involvement in social or religious organizations and/or organized school extra-curricular activity, which would tend to support the goals of the program.
-
-
Mental and physical ability to voluntarily participate in the program.
-
Participants must be Euclid residents.

And finally, The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is coming to the Euclid Family YMCA!!
As mentioned at the Collab meeting, we are teaming up with University Hospitals to bring the Ronal McDonald Care Mobile to the Euclid Family YMCA on July 25 and 26th from 9am-3pm.
The Care Mobile provides underserved children 3 years of age thru the 6th grade with immediate dental care. All services are offered on board the Care Mobile are provided free of charge to children and their families, that is to say no out of pocket costs. However, reimbursement from a third party, such as Medicaid, is sought if applicable.
Attached to this e-mail are the forms that will need to be filled out for each child. If the child has a dentist that they see on a regular basis, this is NOT an appropriate service. All forms need to be FULLY completed and returned to the Euclid YMCA by Friday, July 15th.
July 25th will be the screening and exam day. If an additional service is needed, the dentist will schedule the follow up appointment on July 26th.
Parents MUST be present, seeing as though this is a medical exam. Families will be called once they are registered with the time frame for their appointment.
If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Nicolai at the Euclid Y at 216-731-7454.
