The French Creek Family YMCA obtained The Nord Family Foundation grant to assist the City of Lorain in opening Central Pool and Oakwood Pool this summer from June 25th through August 17th. Central Pool will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12-6pm; while Oakwood Pool will be open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 12-6pm during the summer months.
Daily gate admission to the pool is $3 for those 15 and under, and $5 for those 16 and over. Children under age 3 are free of charge. Appropriate bathing suit attire is required for entry and young children must be in swim diapers to use the pool.
No basketball shorts and t-shirts will be permitted, however, Rashguard shirts and/or polyester shirts (Under Armor type) are permitted.
Summer swim passes are available for $50.00 for children 15 and under, $70.00 for children 16 and older, and $125.00 for a family. The passes are valid for the entire summer season (June 20th - August 19th).
Swim lessons will be available at both locations and will accomodate children age 3 through 12 years of age. The ratio for these swim lessons will be one instructor to 4-6 children dependant on the swim abilities of the participants. Cost of the swim lessons will be $30 per session.
The scholarship application is available for pool passes and swim lessons through the French Creek Family YMCA.
Please note if the high temperature for the day is below 70 degrees, the pool will not open. If swim lessons are held on one of these days, participants will be contacted for a make up schedule. If inclement weather occurs in the morning hours, the pools will open at 2:00pm as long as weather is clearing. Pool managers have the ability to close a pool for inclement weather and/or lack of attendance.
In 2010, the Greater Cleveland YMCA Association stepped in to manage the pool after Lorain National Bank donated funds to open it. The City of Lorain has three municipal pools but did not have the funding to open them and relied on Lorain National Bank and the YMCA to open Central Pool. In 2011, The Nord Family Foundation contributed a grant to aid the YMCA in operating the Central Pool and Oakwood Pools facility.
All pool pass and swim lesson schedule information will be posted shortly.
