The funds were raised through Panera Bread’s Operation Dough-Nation program. The donation will be used to fund the race fee and medals for the over 600 children who participated in the Cleveland Marathon.
“Our Panera Bread family is thrilled to be able to support We Run This City,” said Sam Covelli, Owner/Operator of Covelli Enterprises, the largest franchisee of Panera Bread. “Operation Dough-Nation is a way for us as company, and our patrons, to support local programs. That is what we strive to do at Panera Bread, make a positive difference in the community through our products and bakery-cafes.”
In total, 600 students from 35 Cleveland area schools participated in the YMCA’s We Run This City Youth Marathon Program. This is the largest number of participants for the program since their inception in 2006. Support of the WRTC program will be instrumental in supporting the program's continued evolution as a model for changing the health and fitness culture within a large urban school district, with the potential to impact favorably the health outcomes of thousands of Cleveland residents.
“The tagline for WRTC is ‘Crossing the finish line is just the beginning,’ and I truly believe that crossing the finish line of the Cleveland Marathon is the beginning of great things for the WRTC runners.” Said Tara Taylor, Senior Program Director for We Run This City.
In 2012 Panera Bread and Covelli Enterprises donated $17 million dollars to charities and local organizations through both product and monetary donations
Thank you, Panera Bread!
